With everything available on the internet, whether manuals, tutorials and music production software, making your own music has become easier than ever before. Artists from all around the globe are producing their own beats and some of them even managed to be full time professionals working from home making a decent living. Others just see making music as a hobby and earn money on the side. For you rap music producers, here is a little advice on how to sell your beats on the internet.
Starting out, you’ll need a good software that fulfills your needs. It should also be easy to use if you aren’t very experienced in making music. Programs that I recommend most are DUBturbo and Fruity Loops. They both cost some money, but as you want to use them for commercial purposes, there’s no way to avoid this. DUBturbo is sold for around 30$ today, which I find more than affordable if you consider that you will be able to make beats nearly in no time and produce a broadcast quality output. There is much more good software on the market, but these two programs are the ones I have made best experiences with.
Once you have found your favourite program, experiment around and try out different things, find your own style and get accustomed to the options and features your software has to offer. When you feel that you are ready to publish your work, I recommend you to try out “warbeats.com” first. This is a forum where hobby producers upload their beats in order to get feedback on if they did the job right and what they could have done better. This is a great way to improve your music and see how people respond to your music. When you are confident enough to say that your music is something people would pay money for, you are ready for the next step: selling your beats.
As you might know, there are many sites where you can put in your music for sale. As far as I know, they’re all good, especially “beatswagger.com” and “Beats4tracks.com”. For other kinds of music, like movie soundtracks and themes, I suggest you to visit “audiojungle.com”. You also might want to make yourself a name in the industry, so put some of your non-commercial beats on MySpace and YouTube and maybe make a couple remixes, so people can hear what your music is like and if you are good at this, you can raise your prices as people recognize your work.
That’s all for now. You might notice some things on your way to the top that I didn’t mention, but I’m sure you will be able to figure them out by yourself, as your experience and confidence grows. Making the first step is always the hardest part, so go on. There is no better time to start than now!
